A civil society was I then to advocate

Love and concern for overseas Filipinos

As Treasurer of Kanlungan Center Foundation

& Kakammpi president for overseas’ dependents

 

Came December 1990 we flew to Hong Kong

From across the globe we leaders converged

Stayed in Maryknoll sisters’ compound to camp

There to workshop too and build camaraderie

 

We then decided to architect Migrante International

Finally had it graduate from a Committee for nigh years

Just in time when we were lobbying for sanguine law

To care for overseas Pinoys across the globe

 

We did pay visits to bars & toured places

Victoria peak and cable car I recalled

With company of Pinay domestic helpers too

We toured the nights for songs & cocktails a’satiate

 

In one bar did I belt out songs to make for free beers

With gusto I sang La Bamba of Mexican folk fame

Accompanying myself with electric guitar to feel

As electrified eyes of tourists watched with awe

 

To the wonderful city built by British taipan

I bid not farewell as it’s o’so near to fly

My appreciation for glorious city planning will stay

This Asian city is one we islanders can be proud of

HUNDRED ISLANDS

Sometime in ’93 did I and some university students

Motored to Pangasinan to visit idyllic Mangayao

To workshop biodynamic farming and homeopathy

Care of Bro Edgard Guevarra of my adeptic circle

 

Upon concluding workshop in rustic Mangayao

We motored pronto to famed Hundred Islands

Lucky enough we came on a nice weekday

With few people we got Quezon Island solo

 

On late afternoon I climbed a mount of site

To meditate and pray to Almighty’s Presence

And at dusk fall we camped on concrete edifice

That awaited our camaraderie with songs & poems

 

Truly beautiful and mystical too are those islands

With Manuel Quezon gracing statue on an isle

Amid howling winds at night we slept so real good

At morning photos & time to go to bless our mood

In Sept ’93 came the momentous occasion

For me to climb the bosom of Mt Banahaw

A mystical moment twas truly memorable

With students in UP Manila to share the time

 

After the class in social movements did I decide

We go up great Banahaw to conclude the term

And then by late afternoon we shall swim & camp

As dusk approaches we read poems & stories too

 

Just upon arrival did the mountain Diva reveal

Herself to my inner focal sending messages

Intuit did I those thoughts of camaraderie

With Nature world to share the holy estate

 

Then came the knowledge sometime in ‘99

That Banahaw will be home to Planetary Chi

To beacon Filipinas’ role in Aquarian Age

As Mother’s Womb for all the times’ adage

God’s grace it is those benign invitations

To tv talk shows with the wonderful task

To share insights on issues of the day

And learn likewise from those who query

 

In ‘86 did Butch Abad’s knighted program did invite

With beloved diva Riza Hontiveros on interview

Then ’89 came Louis Beltran’s invite came

Followed by Noli De Castro’s MGB fame

So did Joe Taruc’s brief platform for OFs

 

Then more programs came to interview across time

As one established expert was I to grow

Winnie Monsod’s & Oscar Orbos’ Debate too

Kapuso ni Jessica for many occasions a’beau

Mike Lacanilao’s global program so to speak

And all the television news to talk and share

As civil society leader endorsing Gloria Arroyo

 

Till now the tv programs do invite

Kapuso ni Jessica to go with many interviews

Tv news of Channels 7 & 2 likewise 

Kablog time for the youth of the day

Kris Aquino’s night show to share brains too

Boy Abunda’s show the last to do the same

Asked was I of Iverson’s ignominous psyche

 

Thanks Almighty Creator for those occasions

Will I always be open for gracious invitations

God’s grace it is those exposures to radio talks

Commencing when I was young man of age 23

In beloved Tuguegarao did I share insights fame

On livelihood to folks across the valley enthused

 

Living by Manila from 83 and onwards

Did I awash in fame a bit for radio talks

As university mentor and civil society leader

Was I invited to talk in many stations famed

DZRH, DZMM, DZRV, Radio ng Bayan

Roland Simbulan’s hosted program

Mentong Laurel’s nationalist platform

And more to count

 

Likewise did I visit radio stations in Visayas halls

As teacher leader to share insights on issues’ calls

Radyo Bombo in Bacolod and Iloilo cities

And more to go by counting of my hands

 

Truly thankful to Almighty for such short fames

Did I love so much to enlighten folks & listeners

Till now I open myself to invitations on radio anew

To discourse on issues like they were beau d’ bamboo

CORDILLERA COUNTRY

Igorotlandia d’ Cordillera is one whole story yet to tell

For this enthused soul who climbed up those fiery lands

Beginning in Summer 77 in Baguio the summer capital

Onwards to 81 in work visitations of Ifugao

Roll over to work monitors of Kalinga & Apayao

Likewise visiting Ilongots of Quirino their siblings

Till 2000 when I revisited Ifugao on my way to Sagada

There to communicate with the ancestors

And say my own appreciation for Bulol of the astrals

 

Cordillera is an awesome land like Marlboro country

Growing pines interspersed with undulating mounts

Blended with fjords and a nurturing hospitable people

Home likewise to gold and treasures beneath the mounts

 

Cordillera is amongst the guardian ranges of Filipinas

Standing tall across hundreds of kilometers to frown

Upon all predatory greedy people and bad folks

Its forests and rivers narrate history like mute beings

Of a mighty people scions of ancient Malayan Mu

 

Turbulence yet may come a couple of years from now

Yet Cordillera will stand still and tall

Beacon of ancient Mu and future Filipiniana

SOLANA

Across the Rio Grande Cagayan from Tuguegarao’s hide

Is Solana town ‘tis home to many kins of mine

 

There was I and brothers brought to summer holidays

Crossing the river by ferry as bridge there was none

 

There we played with carabaos, sheeps, and goats

Accompanied beloved Inggo who was pastor to them

With engrossed care we bathed them wonderful pets

Feeling at one with them we are truly blessed

 

Immersing in livestocks I grew to love them creatures

Built empathy along as I beloved more pets

 

Solana now is home to ancient pedigree of man

Whose bones fit half a million years to measure

 

Such knowledge thus to blend with sweet memories

Of my short but lovable stays in ol’ Solana town
